The cafe in Spa Weekend? That is us.
If you have watched the trailer for Spa Weekend and thought that waterfront cafe looks familiar, you are right. That is Tarte Beach House, our home on Currumbin Creek.
The movie
Spa Weekend is the new comedy from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writing team behind Bad Moms and The Hangover. It stars Isla Fisher, Anna Faris, Leslie Mann and Michelle Buteau as four lifelong friends who escape to a luxury spa retreat for a weekend that does not go to plan. The film was shot on the Gold Coast, with our corner of Queensland standing in for Los Angeles, and it is in cinemas now.
The cafe
When the production came looking for a waterfront cafe, they found ours. Tarte Beach House sits right on Currumbin Creek: the Cafe is down on the sand, the restaurant looks out over the water, the Tea Garden is tucked next door in florals and greenery, and The Hideout is perched above it all in the branches of a 100 year old fig tree.
Everything on screen is the real thing. Same deck, same water, same view. The only difference is that when you visit, the crullers, bagels and coffee are real too.
Visit the set
We are open from 6:30am every day. The Cafe on the sand is walk-in only and dog friendly, the restaurant takes bookings for breakfast and lunch, and high tea runs in the Tea Garden from Wednesday to Sunday. Find the Beach House and high tea pages in the menu above to plan your visit.
