A kid-friendly day in Currumbin these school holidays

Spring school holidays run from late September to mid October, which is two-plus weeks of finding somewhere to take everyone that the adults will actually enjoy too. Here is ours.

Start on the sand

The Cafe at Tarte Beach House sits directly on the sand of Currumbin Creek. Not across a road from it, on it. Kids and dogs are welcome, it is walk-in only from 6:30am, and there is grass and creek right out front, so breakfast happily becomes a morning. There is a proper kids menu, the adults get the full cafe menu and our house-blend coffee, and nobody has to keep anyone quiet.

Then get on the water

The creek at Currumbin is calm, shallow at the edges and made for small people. Paddle boards are available for hire right by the Beach House, and the flat water means first-timers are fine. Details are on our SUP hire page.

The rainy-day plan

The Tea Garden runs a kids high tea at $35 per person alongside the grown-up version, which turns a wet Wednesday into an occasion: tiered stands, little sandwiches, pastries from our own bakery and the garden’s flowers all around. Bookings via Now Book It, and the Restaurant beside it takes families for a longer lunch with waterfront tables.

The Burleigh version

If you are up the highway, the bakery at 1748 Gold Coast Highway runs a takeaway window from 6am. A cruller in one hand and the beach a short walk away is a school-holiday morning sorted, and the pastry case is at its fullest before 10am.
