Breakfast on Currumbin Creek
Plenty of cafes on the Gold Coast are near the water. A creekside table usually means a road, a footpath and a strip of grass between you and it. At Tarte Beach House the Cafe sits on the sand of Currumbin Creek itself. You carry your coffee a few steps and your toes are in it. We think that makes it the most creekside breakfast on the coast, and we are happy to be judged on that claim.
On the sand from 6:30am
The Cafe is walk-in only, open every day from 6:30am, and dog-friendly, so the morning crowd is swimmers, paddlers, dogs and prams. Coffee is our exclusive house blend roasted by Parallel Roasters. Start with the Acai with macadamia praline and house meringue, or the Avo Toast with fried shallots and spicy Asian caramelised peanuts on grain sourdough. In winter, the Parisian Hot Chocolate with its house marshmallow has a strong local following.
A proper brunch over the water
When you want more than a coffee on the sand, the Restaurant looks straight over the creek and serves brunch all day. The Crumpet Benny stacks poached eggs and house miso hollandaise on Tarte's own wholemeal crumpet. The Roti Canai brings miso scrambled eggs and crispy potato hash with grilled roti and a house green curry sauce. The Creme Brulee Pancakes get torched at the table end of things, fluffy buttermilk with French vanilla bean custard. Bookings through Now Book It, walk-ins welcome.
Make a morning of it
Currumbin Creek at breakfast is the southern Gold Coast at its best. The tide comes and goes across the flats, the alley breaks beyond the mouth, and the Tea Garden and The Hideout sit around the Restaurant for the occasions that need more than a table. The Beach House is a daytime place, so come early, stay for a swim, and let lunch happen on its own schedule.
