Best brunch in Burleigh Heads: a local's guide

Burleigh does brunch better than almost anywhere on the coast, and the locals are spoiled for it. Here's how we'd spend a morning at Tarte, on the corner of 1748 Gold Coast Highway, where the bakery and the kitchen run side by side from 6:30am every day.

Start with what comes out of the oven

We're a bakery first, so the pastry bench is the place to look before you sit down. The croissants are laminated by hand over three days and baked fresh that morning, and the rest of the viennoiserie sits alongside them. Grab one with your coffee while you decide.

Then order properly

The brunch menu leans on our house Everything Bagel. The Bullseye Benny is the one to beat, poached eggs and house miso hollandaise with double-smoked streaky bacon. If you're hungry, the Brisket Bagel carries 24hr slow-cooked wagyu. For something lighter there's the Miso Scramble on white sourdough, or the Health Bowl if the week's been heavy. Sweet tooth? The Tiramisu French Toast, thick-cut brioche with vanilla mascarpone and a house coffee syrup, is brunch and dessert in one.

There's room for everyone here. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options run right through the menu, so a mixed table is easy.

Coffee worth the trip

Our coffee is an exclusive house blend, roasted just for us by Parallel Roasters, poured however you like it. The takeaway window opens at 6am if you're headed to the beach, and the doors open at 6:30.

A couple of local tips

We're walk-in only, which keeps it relaxed but means Sundays get busy. Come before 8am on the weekend and you'll walk straight in, get the pastries at their best, and have the pick of the bench. Bring the dog, the outdoor seating is dog-friendly.
